Quito and Galapagos Cruise

Quito and Galapagos Cruise

Quito 2 nights May 4, 2027 - May 6, 2027

Cruise May 6, 2027 - May 10, 2027

The Galápagos Islands are among the most remarkable wildlife destinations on Earth. Formed over 6 million years ago and still evolving, this volcanic archipelago lies about 600 miles (1,000 km) off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. Its remote location has allowed species to develop in isolation, creating unique wildlife that shows little fear of humans.

The islands are famously linked to Charles Darwin, whose 1835 visit helped inspire his groundbreaking theory of evolution. Protected as Ecuador’s first national park in 1959, the Galápagos were later named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. Today, the region is safeguarded by one of the largest marine reserves in the world, along with extensive biosphere protections and vital whale and shark sanctuaries.

YACHT LA PINTA
Origin of Species Adventure – Southeastern Islands
Exploring the Wild Beauty of the Southeastern Galápagos
Central & Southeastern Galápagos | 5 Days / 4 Nights (Thursday–Monday)

Itinerary Highlights
Your journey begins on Baltra Island, once a World War II military base and now home to an Ecuadorian naval and air force station. From there, sail east along the rugged volcanic coastlines of North Seymour Island and Santa Cruz Island, continuing on to the stunning Plazas Islands.

The adventure continues with visits to Santa Fe Island and San Cristóbal Island, home to the provincial capital, giant tortoises in the highlands, and several fascinating visitor sites.

Your voyage concludes with one of the Galápagos’ most extraordinary destinations—Española Island in the south, one of the most remote and genetically distinct islands in the archipelago, a place that would have captivated even Alexander von Humboldt.

Your Experience
Wherever your journey takes you, the dedicated crew aboard La Pinta is committed to delivering an unforgettable experience—one that is immersive, inspiring, and deeply moving.

BALTRA & SOUTH PLAZA ISLAND
Baltra Airport (Baltra Island)
Our adventure begins with a morning flight to Baltra Island and immediate transfer to the dock to board Yacht La Pinta. There’s a welcome introductory briefing, boat drill, cabin assignment and then lunch. We weigh anchor and start sailing for our first afternoon outing.
South Plaza Island
The turquoise waters of this location contrast brilliantly with the volcanic terrain of the shoreline, while a carpet of scarlet sesuvium succulents serves as groundcover for a grove of luminescent green prickly-pear cactus beyond, populated by colourful Galapagos land iguanas. Along the coastline one finds sea lion colonies, while sea birds play with the thermals that form along the cliffs of this small but spectacular island. By all means, this island is a great introduction to the natural essence of the islands.

May 7, 2027
SANTA FE & SAN CRISTOBAL
Santa Fe Island
We take the dinghy over to this idyllic sandy-white beach populated by colonies of sea lions, one of the “Humboldt quartet” of islands, washed over by the nutrient-rich cold current, one of the most genetically-diverse islands in the archipelago — with a raft of its very own species, found here and only here. Galapagos hawks are often easily observed, perched atop salt bushes. The Santa Fe land iguana, unique to just this island, may be spotted during the walk. During the morning we can also arrange some aquatic activities including kayaking, snorkelling and even some coastal exploration.
Cerro Colorado Tortoise Habitat
After lunch, we disembark at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, close to where Darwin first stepped on the Galapagos Islands in 1835, today the archipelago’s provincial capital. A statue commemorates his momentous visit. From here, we drive up to Cerro Colorado, to visit the breeding centre for the highly endangered giant tortoises in the midst of a fantastic deciduous forest, home to dozens of bird species, including the San Cristobal mockingbird, and the San Cristobal lava lizard, both island endemics. There’s free time to explore the town at the end of the day.

SAN CRISTOBAL
Punta Pitt
We land at the eastern tip of San Cristobal Island this morning. The trail that ascends from the beach provides spectacular views of the shoreline; we can observe frigates, plus a colony of bachelor sea lions. Look around and try to spot here all the species of boobies! After the walk, if conditions are favorable, there is time for a panga ride or some snorkeling.
Cerro Brujo
In the afternoon following lunch on board, a dinghy ride along the shores of tuff-stone layers takes us to Cerro Brujo's expansive, white coral beach, great for walking, with rewarding birdwatching featuring seabirds and shore birds. Also, look out for Galapagos sea lions. This is the same northern coast of San Cristobal Island that Charles Darwin sailed and explored, back in September 1835. You will love this white-coralline beach.

ESPAÑOLA
Punta Suarez
Our morning outing at Punta Suarez provides an exciting walk on lava/boulder terrain to visit its unique sea bird colonies, including the waved albatrosses (seen from early April to early January), boobies, swallow-tail gulls, and the famous “blowhole” lava formation — with the realm of the Humboldt Current beyond in the distance. Also, look for red-green-black marine iguanas. Many regard this site as one of the most rewarding Galapagos visits. Back on board for lunch.
Gardner Bay
In the afternoon, we set down at this beautiful, white coral beach for a short walk to observe the sea lions, mockingbirds, finches, or simply enjoy the peace of the beach. There is great snorkelling in this area, or else there’s time to kayak or ride the glass-bottom boat.

May 10, 2027
SANTA CRUZ/BALTRA
Charles Darwin Research Station (Santa Cruz Island)/ Baltra Airport
This morning, we end our tribute to the British naturalist with a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station and the captive rearing program for the giant tortoises. Here we witness the efforts and results of Galapagos fieldwork and study done in the name of science.
We transfer via bus across Santa Cruz Island and a short ferry ride to Baltra. Our journey ends at Baltra Island, where we transfer to the airport to take the flight back to the mainland. Baltra's flat substrate (due to its uplifted origin) is the reason why the island was chosen back in the 1940s as the construction site for an airport.

Notes
Please remember that the exact route and programme may vary according to weather and ocean conditions and the wildlife we encounter. It's also subject to change without previous notice due mainly to readjustment of the National Park policies and regulations.
- Dry landing: guests step from the dinghy onto rocks or a dock.
- Wet landing: as the dinghy edges onto a sandy beach, guests step into around 8 inches (20 cm) of water and wade ashore.
